What makes a Paediatric Rheumatology Nurse so special?

JIA nurses are specialists who have studied to gain expert knowledge on juvenile arthritis. They work alongside consultants and other medical professionals with the sole purpose of ensuring that the care delivered to a child or young person with JIA is of high quality.

Their skill set goes above and beyond the physical examination and administering medication; more often than not they are supporting the whole family, parents/carers, brothers and sisters and they can often be found in schools and nurseries, educating and providing assistance.

I have spoken to some parents about the magnificent nurses that support their child and here are some of the comments:

I have met so many JIA nurses over the last few years and there is not one which I don’t admire. They are critical to delivering and sharing information within the multi-disciplinary team about a child or young person and they are often the central link that has regular contact with everyone.
