• Safe in School - Health Conditions in Schools Alliance

    Over 1 million pupils live with long term medical conditions in the UK! The Health Conditions in School Alliance (HSA) is working hard to make sure these children get the right care and support they need in school. We are a proud member of the HSA and work with them regularly to improve support for people with JIA in schools.

    This year the event was held at the Athenaeum, an 18th Century building right on the main square in Bury St Edmunds. The afternoon included lots of fun craft activities for the children and young people and a photo booth, while the parents and relatives who came along attended informative sessions with a host of Healthcare Professionals (HCPs) from the East of England’s Paediatric rheumatology team.

    NRAS have had a fun morning supporting Lynette and friends (founders of Wear Purple For JIA) by donning anything purple we could get our hands on, including wigs, t-shirts and bras!     The East of England Family Fun Day on Saturday February 27th saw families come together, and whilst the children and young people had fun with the photo booth and craft tables, their parents and carers listened to presentations by rheumatology experts and took part in Q & A sessions on JIA, education and service development.

    A study led by researchers at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore, in New York, has identified a human protein called transthyretin (TTR) that causes an autoimmune reaction in the joints of JIA patients.
